SDP Ready To Rescue Nigeria In 2027 – Adebayo
The leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that the party is fully prepared to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative capable of addressing the nation’s deep-rooted challenges.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 6, Adebayo, who was speaking on the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections, said the SDP remains a movement built on honesty, accountability, and patriotism, values he claimed are missing in both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adebayo said the party’s ideology clearly distinguishes it from the dominant political blocs.
“It is rare to find a true SDP member who has interest in the APC or PDP because what they represent is totally opposite to what the SDP stands for,” he said.
He emphasised that while other parties are driven by self-interest and personal ambition, the SDP is guided by service and value-based leadership.
“Our foundation is integrity. We don’t see politics as a career for wealth or influence; we see it as a duty to improve society,” Adebayo said.
Reflecting on his 2023 presidential campaign, Adebayo admitted that internal sabotage affected the SDP’s performance but added that reforms were already underway to strengthen internal discipline and transparency.
“When I ran for president, some elements within the party worked against us. There were state chairmen who gave our agent cards to another party,” he revealed.
He cited a specific example from Kwara State, saying: “In Kwara, for instance, we discovered that while we scored over 122,000 votes, only 22,000 were recorded for us. We are changing such leadership and bringing in new people.”
According to him, the ongoing restructuring will ensure that only committed members who share the party’s values remain in leadership positions.
Adebayo stressed that building a principled political organisation takes time and sacrifice, noting that the SDP is prioritising patriotism over profit and principle over politics.
“It takes time to build a political party made up of people who are selfless and patriotic, those who are in politics only because they want a better country. That’s what we are doing in the SDP,” he explained.
He added that the party’s long-term goal is to produce leaders who are not only competent but also guided by conscience and a sense of responsibility to the people.
We’re Correcting the Flaws of the Past
The SDP leader linked Nigeria’s persistent leadership and governance crises to historical divisions inherited from the colonial era, saying the party’s mission is to heal those fractures through unity and fairness.
“Early nationalists like Herbert Macaulay, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Ahmadu Bello inherited a divided system. The SDP wants to correct those foundational flaws through value-based politics and people-oriented leadership,” Adebayo said.
He argued that Nigeria’s democracy must evolve from ethnic rivalry and patronage to one anchored on merit, justice, and good governance.
SDP Represents Hope for 2027
Adebayo said Nigerians are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the performance of the ruling APC and the opposition PDP, noting that the SDP is gradually emerging as a home for citizens seeking a sincere political platform.
“The people are tired of recycled promises. Nigerians want results, not rhetoric. The SDP offers that hope because our members are not career politicians but citizens driven by conviction,” he said.
He assured that the SDP would field credible candidates at all levels in 2027, backed by a clear development vision rooted in transparency and inclusiveness.
