Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed one of his aides for openly violating his directive against premature political campaigning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was announced by the governor’s Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, during a monthly press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Centre in Lafia on Wednesday (today).

Ahemba explained that the governor had repeatedly warned his appointees to desist from early political activities, describing such actions as a breach of the Electoral Act and a distraction from governance.

“The governor has sacked one of his aides who engaged in open campaigning despite repeated warnings against the act,” Ahemba stated.

According to Ahemba, the dismissed official, Arch. Ahmed Usman Seriki, who served as the Senior Special Adviser on Works and a former chairman of Doma Local Government Area, was fired for publicly campaigning for the former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who is believed to be nursing a governorship ambition.

“Governor Sule could not tolerate open defiance of his directive on early campaigns. The aide dared his principal by openly campaigning for a governorship aspirant in 2027, and the governor took decisive action,” he said.

Ahemba reiterated that the governor’s administration remains focused on delivering good governance rather than allowing premature political distractions.

In a separate development, Ahemba announced that the Nasarawa State Government had renewed its commitment to complete the Karu flyovers and underpass project before the end of Governor Sule’s administration in 2027.

He disclosed that the state recently secured the Federal Government’s approval to construct two flyovers and one underpass in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.

“The government had set aside the required funds for the projects even before they were conceived,” Ahemba explained.

He noted that the administration’s policy since its inception in 2019 has been to set aside funds before initiating any project, ensuring that no government project is abandoned.

“This development is part of the government’s efforts to provide lasting solutions to traffic challenges along the busy Karu-Mararaba corridor,” he added.

The aide explained that the planned flyovers and underpass would ease the movement of residents, motorists, and travellers while improving the durability of the roads in the state’s busiest urban corridor.

He revealed that the Nasarawa State Urban Development Agency (NUDA) had been directed to conduct feasibility studies and assessments to determine suitable project sites and prepare necessary documentation for contract awards.

“The government will ensure the completion of all ongoing projects before the expiration of its tenure,” Ahemba assured.

On security, Ahemba said the state government had concluded plans to acquire Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and drones to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across Nasarawa.

“The government has adopted new strategies to address pockets of kidnapping and other security challenges in the state,” he stated.

“I assure you that security agencies, in collaboration with stakeholders, will do everything possible to flush out criminals.”

He disclosed that the state’s security architecture had already begun implementing new measures aimed at reducing crime to the barest minimum.
