Teach Your Kids To Say No To Unwanted Touch – Kaffy Warns Parents
Renowned Nigerian dancer and choreographer Kaffy has called on parents to teach their children about personal space and to set clear limits with adults.
Abia Radio News reports that in a video on her Instagram page, she said children must understand that it is okay to refuse unwanted physical contact, even from familiar family members or caregivers.
The mother of two shared that she experienced inappropriate behaviour from a trusted family friend during her childhood.
She explained that such incidents can happen even when adults around are unaware.
She said that people who harm children often do not look like obvious threats and may appear caring or helpful.
She advised parents not to be overly trusting of individuals who are close to their children, including uncles, aunties, nannies, and drivers.
According to Kaffy, clear boundaries and guidance can help children avoid uncomfortable situations and protect their emotional well-being.
The choreographer also warned against making comments about children’s bodies or showing physical affection without consent.
She encouraged creating safe environments where children feel respected and can freely express discomfort.
She said: “It happened right in front of people who trusted the person. At that age, I didn’t understand what was going on. But I knew something about it was wrong.
“Many of them appear caring. They may be the ones who always want to help or be around the child. That’s why parents need to pay attention and set clear boundaries.
“Parents need to be cautious of the favorite uncles, the favorite aunties, the favorite nannies, the favorite drivers. There needs to be boundaries. Many children face uncomfortable situations from people who are close to them.”
