Obi served food to Guests as Anambra Governor, I’m a living witness- Veteran Journalist, Okoli

A veteran Journalist and former chairman Abia state council of the Nigerian union of Journalists (NUJ), comrade Hyacinth Okoli says the humility of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, particularly as it concerns serving his guests and people at events is an act inherent in the former Anambra state Governor and not a fluke.

Comrade Okoli who was reacting to some recent statements credited to some political opponents of Mr Obi who described his serving food at a function as a mere eye service, pointed out that as Governor of Anambra state, he was in the habit of personally serving his guests.

Okoli who retired as the Acting Director General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia state revealed that while serving as the chairman NUJ Abia Council, Mr Obi personally served him and his colleagues when they visited the Anambra government lodge at Amawbia where the former governor popularly called Okwute lived.

“For the avoidance of doubts, Peter Obi as Governor of Anambra state served over thirty of us when the Leadership of the NUJ, Zone C (South East) visited him during his first term.

“Initially, those of us from outside Anambra state tried to resist his serving us but we were made to understand by our colleagues from Anambra that it is his lifestyle.

“If I had any doubts as to his rare humility, when over one hundred and twenty Journalists from across Nigeria held their NUJ NEC meeting during Obi’s second term , the same Man together with his humble wife stood and served all of us to the amazement of our colleagues from other parts of the country.

“Truly, this is Obi for you. It is in him and I’m not his spokesperson but a Nigerian who is disturbed by this wicked distortion of facts by people that are just afraid of Mr Obi’s unstoppable rising profile,” the former NUJ chairman disclosed .

He therefore called on politicians to desist from dishing out false information in the name of politicking, pointing out that what the country needs now is discussing programnes and issues that will improve the economy and security of Nigeria.

“It shows some sort of ignorance if an enlightened political leader begins to ask whether Peter obi served people with food while he served as Anambra Governor,” the veteran Journalist stated.

Okoli’s reaction may not be unconnected with the statement on Tuesday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, is just pretending to be humble.

According to Wike: “This is not where a presidential candidate will be carrying food to serve, no – this is pretense. How long will he be serving the food?

“As a presidential candidate to carry food and be serving and Nigerians are laughing? Saying he is humble.

“Who told you that is humility? Who told you that? And you people gave audience to that kind of thing.

“And somebody will be telling you as a presidential candidate, when I win I will use a commercial plane and you think he is telling you the truth? Which security will allow you?

“We must tell ourselves the simple truth, Nigerians you like people who will play you wayo, you don’t like people who will tell you the simple truth.

“When he was governor, was he serving food? Now because elections are coming I want to serve if you like go and listen to him.”
