Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned permanent secretaries in the state that they will be held responsible for their actions while in office.
The governor said anyone who compromised civil service standards during the emergency rule in Rivers would not escape accountability.
Governor Fubara gave the warning during the swearing-in of Austin Ezekiel-Hart as a permanent secretary at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt.
He stressed that Ezekiel-Hart’s appointment was based purely on merit and professionalism in the state civil service.
The governor stated that he had never instructed any permanent secretary to bypass due process. He urged the new appointee to uphold the values that earned him the position.
Fubara also encouraged Ezekiel-Hart to speak out with evidence if ever pressured to violate civil service regulations.
He noted that his government would be judged by actions, not promises. “You’ll be held accountable for your actions,” Fubara told the top civil servants.
The ceremony was witnessed by permanent secretaries, the State Head of Service, and eight commissioners retained after the dissolution of the State Executive Council.
Recall that the governor recently relieved some commissioners following the return to democratic rule in Rivers state.
