I Cannot Offer My Support – APC Aspirant Accuses Party Of Imposing Gov Oyebanji
An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State, Abimbola Olawunmi, has claimed that the party is imposing the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on the state.
Olawunmi made the accusation on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television.
He insisted that he would not support the candidacy of the incumbent governor
“If the process that made Gov. Oyebanji the APC candidate for 2027 had been fair, I could support him. However, since the process is fundamentally flawed, I cannot offer my support.
“The people of Ekiti State have made it clear that they do not intend to vote for him in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
“If he lacked the confidence to contest fairly in the primaries, how does he expect to win the general election,” he asked.
Abia Radio News reports that the APC on Monday affirmed Oyebanji, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The motion for affirmation was moved in Ado-Ekiti by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Stephen Aribasoye.
Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the Affirmation Congress Committee, Ahmed Ododo, said the decision reflected the governor’s “giant strides in various sectors which have benefitted the people of Ekiti.”
He added that APC remained a disciplined party that had earned the trust of the people through Oyebanji’s leadership style.
