Fresh Twist In PDP Crisis As ‘Warning Letters’ Surface

The lingering crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Sunday, November 2, 2025, after the emergence of alleged “warning letters” purportedly issued to top members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in what some party chieftains and members have described as a desperate move to justify the controversial suspension of some national officers.

Abia Radio News reports that the letters, circulated by pro-Damagum loyalists in Abuja, were dated September 30, 2025, and addressed separately to the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature (rtd).

According to the documents, both officers were purportedly cautioned for alleged “acts of insubordination and breach of party discipline.”

However, the affected NWC officials dismissed the letters as “afterthoughts and political fabrications,” accusing their opponents of trying to create legitimacy for what they described as an “illegal suspension.”

Reacting to the development, Senator Anyanwu described the letters as “nonsense,” insisting that no one within the PDP structure had the authority to issue him a warning.

“It is nonsense! Can anyone there dare give me a warning letter?” he told The Nation.

On his part, Captain Umar Bature, the party’s National Organising Secretary, said the documents had no constitutional backing and were part of a coordinated smear campaign.

“They just want to justify the nonsense they did,” Bature said.

“They don’t have any power to write such letters or to suspend anybody. None of those signatories has the authority under the PDP constitution to discipline members of the NWC.”

What has further fuelled controversy is the inclusion of Abdulrahman Mohammed, who was recently announced by the Wike/Anyanwu bloc as the replacement for Ambassador Umar Damagum as PDP National Chairman, among the signatories to the purported letters.

Also listed are Chief Ali Odefa, whose claim to the position of National Vice Chairman (South East) was nullified by the Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday, and Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, former Zonal Caretaker Chairman (South-South), whose committee was also dissolved by the court.

The same ruling upheld the validity of the zonal congress that produced Chief Dan Orbih, a loyalist of Nyesom Wike, as the authentic South-South Zonal Chairman of the PDP.

According to The Nation, party insiders have described the timing of the letters and the involvement of invalidated signatories as evidence of “political desperation.”

Meanwhile, the Wike/Anyanwu faction has continued to insist that the leadership changes announced last week were legitimate.

Several stakeholders, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, have already congratulated Abdulrahman Mohammed and others said to have been appointed to replace Damagum’s team.

Similarly, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and former FCT Senator Philip Aduda have backed the shake-up, describing it as an opportunity to reposition the PDP for better performance.

“The new leadership must perform better than what we witnessed under Damagum’s watch,” one of the Wike-aligned leaders reportedly said.

Abia Radio News reports that the power struggle between factions loyal to Nyesom Wike and those aligned with Ambassador Umar Damagum continues to split the PDP’s hierarchy, raising concerns over unity ahead of future elections.
